A good man is hard to find….even better

I admit that I never came up with that quote (5 points if you tell me who did) but I do admit to wondering why guys are hard wired to feel competitive when a woman is ranking them according to strength. Let me take a step back and explain my situation, in 2004 I was diagnosed and treated for final stage Tuberculosis, I had part of my left lung removed (Old R1 coin size, but still Old R1 coin size more than I wanted to lose), I lost 26kgs and while I was on medication battled to get my weight back up. Since then I’ve been pretty good with staying healthy and fit, and herein lies my point. I work with an International Level Mens Rower, a national water polo couch, a provincial rugby coach and a tough as nails looking guy with the name Lance (poetic and frightening). So when I rank third in a make-believe arm wrestling competition I feel like I could have done better, but by all rights I was lucky to get third. I’m pretty sure I would outsmart these guys, but I’ve never been on the receiving end of an intelligence ranking, only ever a Who is the hairiest?, Who is the strongest?, Who has the manliest hands? Who uses the least amount of toiletries? Who would be useful in a scrap? And in all of these I rank pretty low. So I ask, is this a universal measure of a man? Do other woman find these traits to be uber-masculine? How does appearance, or kindness, or honesty, or intelligence rank out there? Ok gotta run, time for my bubble bath.
